Homeschool PE

Holly invited us all to her parent's house on Eagle Mountain Lake today and boy was it fun!!!

We were the first friends to arrive, so Holly's Dad gave Reese a big ride on the jet ski.

Hi Mom!

After a bit, Holly hooked up the "Poparazzi" to the back of the jet ski, and Grandpa and Reese pulled Holly, Bianca, & I behind on this awesome toy. I don't think I have laughed that hard or been that scared in a long time. Reese & Grandpa zipped us around a corner and turned us completely upside down in the Poparazzi which was, in Reese's eyes, awesome. Mommy & the other ladies totally upside down in the lake!

Mommy's friends Bianca, Holly, & MeLissa take the Poparazzi for a spin!

Reese didn't come out of the lake for 3 1/2 hours, except to eat...which mean ole' Mommy made him pause and do!
Throwing mud was great fun!

Along with going for rides on the Poparazzi, it made a great "mountain" that the kids climbed all over...
Waiting for another ride...
And about two minutes into our car ride home, Reese was O.U.T.!

Thanks, Holly, & to the Harders for having us over today. It was so much fun!!

Fudgesicle Time...He Never Ceases To Surprise Me

On Friday, our buddies invited us over for a swim, & Mrs. MeLissa brought out some popsicles & Fudgesicles. YUMMM!

Usually, Reese doesn't like popsicles or ice cream because they're too cold. But, surprise surprise, he decided he wanted a Fudgesicle!

For those of you who don't know Reese, he has a *thing* about getting messy. Like, a I-hate-being-messy thing. No mud pies. No drippy ice cream cones. No sticky candy. Digging in the sand in Hawaii was a shocker!

So I wasn't quite sure how this would all play out, given we were eating them outside in the 106 degree afternoon sun!

So what happened?

Notice the clean hand, just beginning to eat the Fudgesicle

It didn't take long for the drips to start....

And the Fudgesicle started bending over almost instantly...

About this time, Reese turned around and started stepping backwards.
As it dripped, he took a step backwards so as not to get any on his feet.
The drips have begun to migrate down his arm, and the angle of the Fudgesicle is increasing...

Notice his left hand? All balled up in a fist, trying not to worry about the drips on the other hand...

Hmmmm...increased Fudgesicle bendy angle...

The Lean-And-Lick technique which has an adverse effect on Fudgesicle Angle...
As you can now see, the drips are approximately 1/2 way down the forearm,
And the Fudgesicle Angle has increased greatly...

Not looking so good...
A 90 degree angle is never good...

We have achieved the Elbow Drip,
And what is happening with this poor Fudgesicle!

Attempting to lick up the drips....
Smart boy turned the Fudgesicle around and pushed it back to a more upright position...

Too much pressure...Fudgesicle Breakage!
And that can only lead to one thing...
plop....

Oops.
And, if you'll notice, Reese has backed himself all the way past the bushes...

Drips past the elbow...
Left hand tensed, trying to deal with the mess...

The Mammarazzi has been spotted!

I honestly can't think of the last time I've seen my child with a drippy face...
Fudgesicle Eating completed!
On the way around the pool to show the Mama!

Good job baby cakes! Look at all that mess you put up with! :)

Summertime!

Thanks, Mel, for inviting us all over to swim on Friday! Playing with our CoOp buddies is the perfect way to spend a hot summer day.

Practicing the art of relaxation...

Waterslide fun in the sun!

One of the best snacks on earth...
Cheez Its!
Tune in tomorrow to see what happened when we ate Fudgesicles in the 106 degree heat!

Reese's Tiki Party

Reese decided a few months ago that he wanted a Tiki Party based on a picture he saw from a Family Fun Magazine article on cakes I had saved. It was actually a luau cake, but we had to make it more "boy"...so it became a Tiki Party!

Daddy baked the cake, & Mommy and Daddy decorated...
I can't believe he has 6 candles!
We used a rock cave from the fish bowl decoration section at Walmart,
a HotWheels beach van, a "beach dude" toy we found in the toy bin at home,
the whales & shark were from Hawaii,
and you'll notice the monkey Reese thought should go on the top!
Pottsie & Grammie came to town for the party & were so helpful in getting everything ready on Saturday! Thank you Mom & Dad!

Ready for friends to arrive...
Daddy was a good sport and wore a lei...
Jessie & Austen came to the party, & Reese invited Jessie's two best friends
Caitlyn & Miranda.
Austen asked off work & drove them all to the party.
What an awesome brother & sister!
Everyone had a fun time swimming...
After lots of pool time, it was pizza time!
Everyone grabbed towels and came up to the patio for pizza & fruit salad...
but mostly pizza...
I hate pinatas, but Reese found a palm tree pinata at WalMart and really, really wanted one.
So I couldn't say no.
I thought I stuffed that thing with tons of candy, but once everyone had collected it all there wasn't much to go around.
How did that happen??
Pottsie offered to make the pinata sticks & Reese thought they were awesome and looked like ninja swords.
They are currently hidden under his bed...

Thanks to my friend Deb who took the next few pictures...
My camera died just as we were starting to sing Happy Birthday!
Are you kidding me?
So I have no video of blowing out candles...
and I am beyond thankful that Deb was there with her camera!!

Make a wish baby!!

Time to cut the cake & share...
Do you want blue water or cookie sand?

After cake, everyone hopped back into the pool for more swimming...

Reese had a great night, with wonderful friends, & fun new presents.
Thanks to all his buddies & their families for coming over to celebrate!
Now, Reese....can you please stop growing so fast????

Lessening The Helicopter Momosity

Today, we attended a fun birthday party at a local community pool. Reese had a complete blast for 4 hours straight, and Mommy tried so hard to sit on my hands...

I have a tendency to hover...in Helicopter Mom fashion.

Being around water with a bunch of other kids often makes this Mama very nervous. So many "what-ifs" run through my head.

What if he gets somewhere he can't touch? What if he gets stuck underwater by another child? What if I lose him from sight for two seconds and he is taken away by a child molester? What if he throws up in the pool because he swallowed water & needs my help?

I know...I know. Extreme stuff some of it.

So my tendency in public places, and especially water parks, is to hover.

First few times down the water slide today? This Mama was right at the bottom, making sure Reese knew where to swim to find the steps & get out.

Playing football in the pool with the "big kids?" I was terrified he would get pulled under the water, innocently of course, and panic or not be able to get back to the surface.

So I kept a vigilant eye on Reese, but tried to do it from a little further away. Far enough where he could play without knowing Mommy was on the edge of the pool.

While Tammy & I were sitting in chairs (that we had moved to the edge of the pool so we could see the kids better :) we noticed that Reese had made it out to a deep part of the pool. See, the pool is shaped like the letter L, and each end of the letter are shallow. The corner though is deep...the water goes over Reese's head.

He made it out to the middle of the corner area & began to panic. He started swimming towards one edge, turned to swim to another edge, turned to swim to a third edge. Tammy said "He's swimming in circles..." and he was and was in trouble. His head was above the water, but it was obvious he was second guessing himself and didn't know where to go.

I went to the closest edge to Reese, hollered his name, & had him swim to me. I noticed two lifeguards watching him like a hawk, which I was thankful for. They would have to race me though if Reese needed help!

Luckily, Reese made it to the edge himself. He broke down in tears once his hand hit the side. It was really hard to stay on the edge and wait for him to reach me. Much more swimming and he would have needed help. But I wanted him to know he could safely get himself out of this pickle.

And he did.

But there were sure big hugs from Mama once he got out.

So I will continue to hover, but from a little farther away. Because you just never know when he'll need me!

I sure was proud of him for not panicking though....

Contest Winning, Valentine Partying, & Bean Planting

Reese & I participated in our local mom's group
Recycled Art Contest!
Guess who won a prize with the bowl we made!!

A huge tube of really nice artist paint brushes was part of the prize

and Reese couldn't wait to come home and paint!

We partied on Wednesday with some good friends
at a Valentine's Day party at WinKids.
Reese refused to look at the camera because,
"Mom, let me eat my pizza please!"
When Grammie & GreatGrandma came to visit,
Grammie made Ham & Beans. We saved a few of the beans to sprout,
and they had outgrown their baggie in the window!
So Reese & I planted his beans today...
Here, he's filling the pot with potting soil. His bean plants are about 8 inches tall already
and really needed to be potted!
