Do Schools Today Kill Creativity?

I found this interesting clip of a speech from a conference on creativity. It's a 20 minute video, but well worth the time. He makes many interesting points about how necessary creativity is in success (business, life, etc), and questions if our current methods of education are fostering creativity or squishing it.

Here's the synopsis from the YouTube clip:
"A must-see for every parent and teacher. Education guru Sir Ken Robinson makes an entertaining (and profoundly moving) case for creating an education system that nurtures creativity, rather than undermining it. Sir Ken Robinson is author of "Out of Our Minds: Learning to be Creative," and a leading expert on innovation in education and business. (Recorded February, 2006 in Monterey, CA.)"

Thank you to SoulTravelers3 for listing this video as a favorite of theirs. You'll want to stop by the SoulTravelers website...they're a family of 3 on a multi-year world travel trip. There's some amazing stuff on their site!

I haven't had a chance to see the whole thing but I do agree.

Unfortunately, I agree with this video. Everything taught in a public school in our state now is taught to a test. They have placed way too much emphasis on testing. It's sad.

This clip is very interesting. I'm going to look into some Mr. Robinson's books. I feel that public education is lacking in so many ways. I feel torn and panicked about Izzy starting school next year. I've decided to go ahead and try it out despite many concerns and reservations. I'm really inspired by your decision to homeschool and it might be a choice that we make down the road as well. I really could go on and on and on about this topic.
