We started the morning by drawing pictures on paper towels & then spraying it with water...
The water made the marker run (although Reese's brown marker made his picture look more like skid marks than art) but as we let them sit in the driveway, Mrs. Deb talked about evaporation & the water cycle. Everyone also had fun spraying their hands & feet, making prints on the driveway, & watching them evaporate.
Next, we headed into the backyard for our terrarium-making activity! Everyone needed to bring a large, plastic container to house our plants, so I ended up making a Sam's Club run to buy a big tub of animal crackers. Which we will be eating & serving at many playgroups to come!
First you scoop in some small rocks for drainage...
Next you scoop in a fair amount of soil...
And then you pick your plants and put them in the dirt. In the spirit of full disclosure, soon after I took each of these pictures, Reese promptly decided he was done with scooping rocks & dirt & Mommy had to finish the steps. And getting his hands in the dirt to plant his plants? Not happening. That's why there's no picture, you see. Mommy was elbow deep in the terrarium making plant-holes while Reese stood above and dropped the plants down into the container. He wanted no part of the dirt. Oh well :)
Here's our finished product (and a funny picture of Mrs. Tammy in the background!). Reese's terrarium is next to him, and the face is what I get when I ask for "Cheese!" Silly boy...
