Kids Need Exercise? What?

Since I don't have much creative to contribute today, please check out someone who does! Unschool Girls wrote a fantastic blog entry about children & the need for play. It pains me to think of all those little Wiggly Boys I made sit in "time out" from recess when I was a teacher...because they couldn't focus in class.

Counter-productive, much?

I am going to go read the other post, but I agree with kids needing to play and be kids, that is why I refuse to make them sit and work on homework, They just spent 6 hours in school, I want them to run around and be kids! Wild is good!

Yea, no joke. I often catch myself expecting Jack to sit down for an unrealistic amount of time to work on his math, and then realize that if I would just give him a 5 minute break to run around the yard, he can come back and focus for another 15 minutes!

Thanks for the link to the blog post. I totally agree. There are so many studies that show that kids need time to play outdoors - for physical as well as emotional health. And who cares if it is snowing or raining?! Our motto is that if you got dirty or wet while playing then you must have had a lot of fun!
