Pumpkins: More Than Just Food!

Last Wednesday, we met at Mrs. Melissa's house for some pumpkin exploration! Everyone gathered outside & talked about the two pumpkins in front of them. Which one had more seeds? Which had less seeds? Other than seeds, what would we find in the pumpkins?

Mrs. Melissa made a chart to fill out with the characteristics of each pumpkin.
Next, out came the big knife...it was time to open the pumpkins!
About half the children thought the large pumpkin would have the most seeds. The other half, of course, though the little one would have the most.
Reese used the big scooper to get some "guts" out.
After separating the seeds from the "guts", Mrs. Melissa, & Mrs. Deb separated the seeds into piles.
We talked about different ways to count groups.
We counted by 10s, 25s, and 100s.
So many different ways to count a group of objects!
